Case Study: The European Banking Authority (Environmental Disposal)

Banking and Finance

The European Banking Authority (EBA) is an independent EU Authority which works to ensure effective and consistent prudential regulation and supervision across the European banking sector.

Client Requirements

The UK’s decision to leave the European Union (EU) meant that The EBA was required to move their headquarters to a major European city that operated within the boundaries of the EU.

Paris was chosen as their new Head Office location and after a thorough procurement competition, Pickfords Business Solutions was selected to manage and undertake this important project.

Situated on the 45th and 46th floors of Canary Wharf Tower in the heart of London’s financial district, the majority of desks for their 265 staff would not be making the journey to Paris as would a large volume of associated office effects, catering equipment and redundant IT equipment.

Despite all that was being left behind, the relocation still required 13 articulated Lorries full of material to travel to Paris from London over a long bank holiday weekend, ready for the staff to start work again as soon as the weekend was over!

The EBA was keen to ensure that all the redundant office effects were to be either donated to local schools/charities or reused in some capacity. It was a key component of the competition that the furniture was not to be recycled or sent to landfill.

Pickfords rose to the challenge by ensuring that all the office furniture was sold on via our network of resellers; nothing was recycled and all proceeds were used to fund the clearance project.

Redundant Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), including IT equipment, and printers had been wiped to NCSC standard 5 with detailed certification supplied before re-use or recycling. Display equipment, TV’s and conference equipment was all re-used/recycled and catering equipment was sold for re-use.

  • That all The EBA’s environmental objectives were met by the services that Pickfords were able to deploy, nothing was wasted.

  • Enabled other businesses and local schools to benefit in a positive way from the EBA’s departure from London.

  •  The move and clearance was completed on time and within budget ensuring the timeframe requested was adhered to.
