Pickfords helps WellChild raise thousands of pounds to help sick children

03 Dec 2019

In October, Pickfords helped WellChild, a children’s charity of which the Duke of Sussex is patron, to raise thousands of pounds by supporting an art event and auction.

The art event drew support from more than 40 of the biggest names in the contemporary art world. The artists donated, and in some cases create new pieces, of artwork for the exclusive auction at Christies.

The collection sold for more than £300,000 and the profit from the event will go towards WellChild’s work supporting children with serious health needs and their families.

The creative director Chris Westbrook carefully curated donations from over 40 of the world’s leading artists including established greats such as Anish Kapoor, Tracey Emin, Antony Gormley, Rankin, Harland Miller and David Yarrow.

Pickfords was appointed as the Fine arts logistics provider and carefully managed the packing, transit and storage of 30 pieces of art to support the pre auction preview and the auction at Christies a week later. Pickfords also managed the onward delivery of the art to buyers in the UK and overseas .

Curator and Creative Director Chris Westbrook said “It is always a worry when moving expensive works of fine art. Art works need respectful skilful and professional handling at every stage which is why we are so grateful to Pickfords for partnering with us. The team handled every aspect of the lengthy process for our art exhibition and auction with Christies with unparalleled professionalism and understanding.”

Well Child has provided care for seriously ill children and young people since 1977. Currently the charity funds research and 'Well Child' Nurses, who provide care and support to children and young people needing long-term or complex care, enabling children to leave hospital and be cared for at home by loved ones.

Managing Director Mark Taylor said “We were delighted to take part and to provide the expertise and resources to support to a truly inspirational charity”.
