Job Title: Team Leader LGV

Location: Nationwide

Pickfords is looking for a self-motivated and highly skilled Team Leader LGV to oversee operations, manage teams, and ensure high standards of service. This role requires leadership, flexibility, and a strong commitment to safety and efficiency. The successful candidate will also step in to manage a regional branch in the manager's absence. 

Your responsibilities

  • Team supervision: Lead and support LGV drivers and move teams, ensuring high levels of performance and discipline.
  • Customer service: Deliver exceptional service, liaising with customers and handling inquiries professionally.
  • Operational efficiency: Ensure smooth transport logistics, including planning, routing, and compliance with legal tachograph procedures.
  • Health & safety: Maintain strict adherence to company procedures, accident reporting, and risk assessment regulations.
  • Branch support: Step in to manage a regional branch as required, ensuring continued operational success.
  • Performance monitoring: Conduct team briefings, debriefings, and oversee staff development. 

Education and training

  • Literate and numerate (GCSE Mathematics and English or equivalent desirable).
  • Valid LGV (Category C or C+E) licence and Driver CPC Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Training in Basic Practical Skills, Advanced Packing Skills, Supervisory/Team Leader Skills, Customer Service, Health & Safety, and Risk Assessment.
  • Compliance with established legal tachograph procedures.
  • FLT training where applicable.

Knowledge and experience

  • Strong customer service skills with experience in delivering a high standard of service.
  • Proven experience in leading and supervising teams to ensure efficiency and productivity.
  • Good geographical knowledge of the UK and understanding of working time directives.
  • Knowledge of O-Licence regulations and legal compliance.
  • Experience in office and commercial work, including coaching and training staff.
  • Ability to interpret plans/drawings and instruct teams accordingly.
  • Demonstrable experience in implementing Health & Safety regulations and conducting risk assessments.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound business decisions independently.
  • Excellent driving record and relevant industry experience.
  • A clean disciplinary record for the past 12 months.
  • Willingness to work away from home and on weekends as required.
  • A cooperative and professional attitude with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Capable of briefing and debriefing teams and ensuring smooth daily operations.
  • Willingness to take on Move Controller responsibilities when necessary.
