Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How much does a house move in central London cost?
A local move within central London usually costs between £400 and £700 for a one-bedroom flat, £600 to £1,000 for a two-bedroom home and £800 to £1,400 for a three-bedroom home. Central London tends to sit at the upper end of these ranges because of parking permits, ULEZ and access. The figure for your move depends on volume, access and any extras such as packing or storage. Q2. How far in advance should I book a central London removal company?
For a local move book six to eight weeks ahead. For a long-distance or international move book eight to twelve weeks ahead. End-of-month Fridays and the May to September period book up first, so plan early if your dates are fixed.
Q3. Can Pickfords store my belongings if my completion is delayed?
Yes. We offer storage solutions if your move-in date does not line up with completion. Your belongings are packed into secure containers at the old address, stored at our facility and delivered to the new home when you are ready. Storage rental starts from £18 including VAT.
Q4. What is included in a Pickfords home survey?
A surveyor reviews the volume of your belongings, checks access at both addresses and notes any specialist items such as a piano or large safe. We can do the survey in person or by video call. The survey is free .
Q5. Do I need to book the lift in my building for moving day?
Most central London mansion blocks and modern developments require a lift booking at least 48 hours in advance and many limit moves to specific weekday windows. Some buildings also ask for a refundable damage deposit. Your move manager will contact your building manager or concierge to confirm what is needed and book the slot for you.
Q6. Can Pickfords move large furniture out of a listed building or Georgian property?Yes. Where access through the door or stairwell is not possible, we arrange external hoists or crane work to lift items through windows. This is common for Georgian and Victorian properties across Mayfair, Marylebone and Kensington. Let your surveyor know about any large items at the survey stage so we can plan the right equipment and crew.
